Stairway to Heaven (Marchepieds pour le Paradis), 2022, Paris
For the 25th auction held by La Source, Edgar Jayet proposes a reinterpretation of the TAF studio’s Atelier d’Artek chair. Inspired by recent trips to the United States, Stairway to Heaven is an explicit reference to Shaker furniture: simple, artisanal and purely functional. The chair considers the philosophy of this movement begun in the 18th century, which believed that making something well was a means of accessing an abstract reality that lies beyond ourselves. With its oversized backrest, its wooden posts stretching upwards, the Atelier chair looks like a ladder, a stairway to heaven. The skill displayed by Atelier Palouma seems to be a means of demonstrating the ability of craftmanship to touch other spheres.
A means of showing the path.
