A benidor
How does one live on the shores of the Mediterranean? As climate change appears to be blurring the differences between the two shores of this sea between two lands, Edgar Jayet and Victor Fleury Ponsin want to discuss life on the Mediterranean. In the lineage from Albert Camus’ collection of essays Nuptials (1938), to his posthumous novel The First Man (1994), A benidor is a reflection on this burning, blinding sun. Mingled with Edgar Jayet’s family memories, Camus’ stories inspired the interior architect and the artist to design a piece intended for resting.
A bed, a bench and a few objects, hung with linen drapes. The air is breathable and the light diffuse. An ode to the siesta, the project is infused with resilience in the face of the unbearable Mediterranean heat. While Camus described perfumes, sensations, A benidor gathers a personal collection of fragments within a space, like a transversal reading of the sensations of a person walking in the heat of the day in search of a shady corner in which to take refuge.
